Book Review 2-13

Seasons and Celebrations
This book was written about seasons and celebrations. There are many celebrations around the world. Japan has four seasons, like spring, summer, fall and winter. I like winter because air is clear and we can see many stars in the sky. I like summer, too because I was born in summer, but I sweat too much. I don't like to sweat!!
Many people in the world celebrate New Years on 31 December and 1 January. Some people take part in parties, other people stay with family. In Scotland, the first person who enter the house is called Hogmanay. That is to say, it is the first footing. If the person is tall, dark, and you don't know the person, he will take good luck!! Haggis is traditional Scottish dish for festival. It is a stomach, which is full of lamb calf's giblets. I was surprised when I saw the picture. On the other hand, there are many parties, dancing, parades and fireworks in Edinburgh. Many Japanese usually eat Osechi and Zouni.
Valentine's Day's history is old. It started two thousand years ago! Almost all people know the crude story of the day. Saint Valentine was in Britain, so the day started in Britain. Women usually give chocolates to men in Japan, but men give flowers to women in a country. The day is coming soon!!
Do you know Easter. I actually didn't know. The festival is more important than Christmas in the church year!! Easter is the day Jesus Christ revived. It is different every year, but it is celebrated in spring. I made Easter Eggs! Similarly, Christmas is a festival for Christians. Jesus Christ was born on 25 December, namely, the day is Christ's birthday. Most people have no work, and they usually spend at home with their family or visit remotely family during 25 December to 1 January.
Independence Day is on 4 July. America was independent from England on 4 July 1776, so the day is very important for Americans. Most people have a barbecue with their family outside, and there are many parades in streets.
I think Japan has many useless holidays. Then, Japanese holidays are dull. I want to spend the holidays more fruitful!
