New York
I read a book about New York. I have read about Scotland before, so I was interested in New York.
New York is called The Big Apple by many people because some jass musicians in the 1920s and 1930s longed to work there. They said New York had many apples on the tree. Apples were assimilated to their dreams. There are more than 20 million people every year. I have an image of New York as crowded city! There are five boroughs. They are Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. I have heard them except Staten Island. Maybe more 7 million people live there.
Henry Hudson came to Manhattan. He was a British, but he rode on a Dutch ship. Another Duch person, Peter, bought Manhattan in 1626, and he lived here because here looked like Amsterdam. It was called New Amsterdam. Then many people people lived here, too. New Amsteradam was changed the name to New York later.
New York is good for sightseeing because there are many things. Maybe you know that New York has subway in underground. If you would not buy a subway token, you would not understand where you go. The subway is dirty and crowded, but everyone use it because it is cheap and quick. Ferries are used by many people, too. I didn't know that. I have an image of yellow taxis and buses as facilities for travel. I often watch them when I watched American movies.This book tell New York has more than 11000 taxis. I was amazing!!
There are many places as tourist attractions. People can eat good food and good shopping in Chinatown of Manhattan. I've heard its name. It is very famous place but I don't know about the town. Then, I didn't know about Little Italy and Greenwich Village. Perhaps I have heard Little Italy, but I didn't know it well. There are good Italian restaurants, so it is called Little Italy. Next, Central Park is one of famous places in New York. It is quiet place, so many people who want calm come to here. Finally, Coney Island of Brooklyn has a huge beach and the New York Aquarium.
New York has many high buildings, too. Talking of New York, there are The Statue of Liberty, The Empire State Building, The United Nations Building and The World Trade Center. I want to visit these building in the future!! Especially, I want to The Statue of Liberty!! It was given from France to New York in 1886. There are 354 stairs to the top, so it will be hard for me. The World Trade Center was had been damaged by terrorism. It is too miserable!! I pray for the souls of the dead.
New York is the place of dispatch about fashion and food. There are many famous shops about fashion and foods. For example, Taylor, Gucci, Macy's and so on. I have been to Macy's in Minnesota. It was very huge, and had many shops! It is not in the same class as Tsuruya. According to this book, New York has more than 17000 restaurants, cafes and fast food restaurants! I want to find my favorite restaurants and cafes among them!! Pretzels, hamburgers, hot dogs and sandwiches are famous fast food. I was surprised pretzels when I ate them for the first time because they were not sweet. I thought they were sweet. I think they much beer! Also I like SUBWAY which is sandwiches shop. It is very famous, and serves delicious meals.
There are many entertainment places, too. For example, theaters on Broadway, a rock center and so on. I want to watch musicals of Broadway one time. America is famous for sports like tennis, the New York Marathon and American Football and the Major Leagues. I went to the Major Leagues stadium in Minnesota. I was excited before I entered to it!! My host mother laughed. I want to watch a game of American Football.
According to this book, New York has many parades, and the New Yorker love parades. The two Biggest parades are St Patrick's Day parade on 17 March and Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade on the last Thursday in November. America's Independent Day on 4 July is famous, too. I also know the day.
New York has many people, so here is dangerous. We had not to carry much money, ride on the subway alone at night, walk around alone at night and so on. We must protect ourselves!!
I have heard the New Yorker are not friendly, and walk quickly from my host family. I'm afraid to go there alone, but I want to go there with someone like my host family or my friends!
